Going home: Reflection Survey

Now that you have become more familiar with the NICU, reflect on your present feelings. Have you noticed a change? If not, this is equally important to honor.

Take a ‘Me Moment’ to celebrate you and your baby’s strength. You have been an incredible parent!

As a preemie parent who has become familiar with the NICU, your reflections help improve NICU communication, education, equity and support for families. These reflection questions are brief (less than 2 minutes).

By sharing with us your reflections and thoughts, you are giving your consent to participate in this study for understanding how to improve NICU culture, health communication and health equity. All of your answers will be kept confidential and anonymous. We will not use names in any notes, reports, or summaries. Your responses will also not be shared with any of your child’s doctors or care providers. You may stop this voluntary survey at any time.

I am a:(Required)
I came to know what to expect or what would happen next to my baby in the NICU.(Required)
Understanding high level medical language or ‘lingo’ helped me connect better with my care team for my baby.(Required)
I worked hard to befriend my baby's nurse or doctor. This helped provide me with more high quality ‘insider information’ that helped my baby.(Required)
I felt that every NICU parent in my baby's NICU got the same level of information about their baby in the NICU.(Required)
During my time in the NICU, I felt respected during conversations and interactions with doctors and nurses.(Required)
I felt that my background (income level, education, occupation) affected how doctors and nurses treated me.(Required)
I felt that the doctors and nurses related to my personal experiences (race/ethnicity, gender, age, my health conditions and that of the baby).(Required)
During my time in the NICU, access to medical information that I could use in my own time (when I was ready and at my own pace) helped create more meaningful conversations and relationships with my baby’s care team.(Required)
I now feel like I know how to get answers or address things that are confusing or lack clarity.(Required)
I now feel that finding commonalities with my doctors or nurses (similar upbringing, common interests, etc) is important because it helps them care more about my baby.(Required)
The NICU is an emotionally traumatizing time, it is often hard for parents to process and hear everything that is going on. Access to medical information that I could use on my own (when I was ready and at my own pace) is a help to parents for managing the NICU emotional rollercoaster.(Required)

We would love to connect, hear your thoughts, and have you be a part of the PreeMe NICU champions team!
